A little of this, a little of that

How is everyone’s weekend going?

I started the day with my daily cup of decaf coffee and a lovely GM.

  • cup of almond milk
  • 3 handfuls of spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons flax meal
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • a few handfuls of frozen fruit – grapes, strawberries and peaches

I forgot how much I love the flavor of adding almond butter to my GM’s. A little extra punch of healthy fat to keep me full.

Lunch was mouthwatering, to say the least.

I made another batch of Cashew Spread with oregano, basil and red pepper flakes. I seriously cannot get enough of this spread! The spices I used made the spread taste very “pizza” like.

I spread a thin coating of Earth Balance on two pieces of sprouted bread and grilled them in a pan. On each slice of warm bread I spread the Cashew Spread, added sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, red bell pepper, red onion and avocado. With one bite I knew it needed a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Pizza in a sandwich? Oh Yea!

I also went on a nice run this afternoon – 4 miles. Funny thing is I don’t feel as powerful or confident about my running as I did last week. Could be stress, weather, food… I find myself getting discouraged that I am not improving more quickly. =(

Dinner was re-heated Chinese take-out from a few nights ago.

Kung Pow Tofu, extra spicy, on a bed of brown rice.

I have a weakness for take out once every few months. Not the cleanest of foods but once in a while I have to splurge!

I promised I would post my embroidered towels once they were finished – I think they turned out great!

I also dabbled in some pillow making. This is one that I simply appliquéd on fabric scraps, then embroidered around the edges to give it a “finished” look.

That’s all for now – enjoy your Sunday!

I <3 Tofu Scrambles!

Hi hi!
It’s the weekend! Any big plans? Nothing for us – I have been avoiding getting on my hands and knees to face the dirty hardwood floors… do you detect some cleaning? Grr, I do.

For the record: I love tofu scrambles.
DSC05545 DSC05546 DSC05547

Mmmm mmmm goood! So much better than eggs!

I also have been sewing up a storm lately. I created these reusable produce and bulk bin bags out of muslin today.

DSC05549 DSC05550 DSC05552 DSC05553  DSC05557DSC05556

I always remember to bring my grocery tote but I hardly ever think about produce and bulk bin bags. I am thinking a clear mesh type fabric would be ideal but for now these will work perfect – especially for farmers markets!

And I want to reiterate that I do not promote my handmade items to gain money or profit. Sewing is very much a part of me and my life, and I feel my creations need to be a part of this blog. I am very passionate about my creations and my abilities. Being creative gives me a sense of well being; just as running, cooking and journaling does. =)

Have a glorious weekend!

Veggies Unite!

I had a lovely lunch today!

1/2 of a cucumber, some carrots, hummus and an amazing grilled veggie sandwich! AAAHHHHH this was such a tasty sandwich!

I grilled the bread before putting the filling in by using a little of Earth Balance and placing the bread in a skillet on medium heat. Then I spread my cashew cheese on each slice, added artichoke hearts, avocado, baby spinach and red onion. Heaven in a sandwich.

I love grilling the bread plain beforehand. Much better than toasted! And if I had to chose between fruit and vegetables, I would choose fruit each and every time! I am pretty picky when it comes to fruit and the taste has to be perfect. Not too sweet and not too sour. But with vegetables I always find them to be perfect. =)

And of course I was busy sewing this morning. I made this adorable little girls purse.

With some yoyo’s for flare. I *heart* yoyo’s.

My ultimate job would be to sew all day long. I feel most like myself when I am creating, whether it be by sewing, cooking, knitting or journaling. When I am expressing myself and my abilities I am at peace.

What do you do to feel grounded? Besides creating, running allows me to release stress and tension. Especially when I run outdoors with no music.

How does your garden grow?

Heloooooooo gorgeous Seattle weather! We had such a nice day today – I think spring/summer is finally upon us!

What better way to spend the day than planting herbs:

I know I don’t have a traditional garden, but I do have pretty good luck with my pots. Trust me, if I was able to have a huge garden I WOULD. I absolutely love to garden – there is something to be said about having your hands in the Earth, planting seeds and watching them grow. Magical, I tell you.

My mom gave me most of these plants for my Mother’s Day present, along with this strawberry planter.

Cherry Tomatoes

Italian Parsley & Cilantro

Chocolate Mint & Rosemary

I already had my lavender plant from last year that survived through the winter ( far left pot ).

I will most likely be planting some kind of pepper plant here in the next few weeks. We do have some free space along the side of our house between the existing shrubs, but the soil here is VERY sandy. I should till the soil but there really isn’t that much room. So for now I will stick with my pots.

Do you have any garden plans this year? I would love to hear about them and/or see pictures if you have them on your blog. 😉

I also was behind the sewing machine this morning finishing up some projects when inspiration hit:

Am I the only one who absolutely loves pillows?

Tropical Sunshine + Claire Quilt

I went on a tropical vacation this morning!
Well, my mouth did anyway.
I know I say this quite a bit… but this juice concoction has to have been the best I have ever made!
Tropical Sunshine

  • 1 ripe mango
  • 1 orange
  • 1 cup of fresh pineapple
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup frozen peaches

Juice the mango, orange and pineapple in your juicer. Then add the juice to your blender, adding the banana and peaches. Blend until smooth!
The frozen peaches chilled it down and added a smooth consistency to the juice. I only made enough for one large glass and I kept having to take it away from Marc – he loved it!
I also added a new quilt to my shop – the Claire Quilt.

Homemaker Love

My apron was on all day yesterday; I cooked, cleaned, sewed and played.

I decided to grow an avocado plant. I have heard it’s easy, and with the amount of avocado’s I eat I thought what the heck!

Grow little seed, grow!

All you do is suspend the pit in water for a few weeks until it sprouts, then you plant it in dirt and give it love. =) I love growing plants!

I wanted to run outside yesterday but Seattle’s weather has been anything but predictable. Yesterday we had it all – rain, hail, sun, thunder and wind.

I took advantage of the bad weather and made a large pot of soup.

Lentil soup is my all time staple for comfort food.

I also finished up some sewing projects.

A fleece baby blanket

A delicate yo-yo pillow

DSC05343 DSC05344

My Great Grandma taught me how to make yo-yo’s several years ago. I loved them then and I love them now.

These items are listed here.

And speaking of running: I ran 3 miles last night in under 30 minutes! I couldn’t believe it! I did stop after every mile to have a small water break, though. And my lungs need a little cardiovascular training, but my legs felt great! It’s amazing even after a few months of not running how my muscles still have strength and endurance. Muscle memory is no joke, people!

Looks like today will be another warm day inside the house as the rain clouds are still covering Seattle. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Ginger attack!

This bright green juice looks innocent enough.. but looks can be deceiving!

I call it The Attack of the Ginger juice! YOWZA!

I juiced 2 carrots, a few handfuls of spinach, an apple, a big chunk of ginger and some pineapple. It was good but very acidic! I had to chase it with a huge glass of water. It actually was hurting my poor tummy so I made a pancake to absorb some of the juice.

I used pre-made pancake mix, added some flax meal, cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and a sprinkle of ginger – tasted like pumpkin! A big dollop of PB, a drizzle of maple syrup and some pecans. Tummy thanked me!

And look what I have been doing:

Aprons are so fun to make!

All that sewing made me a tad hungry so I had a warm bowl of my lentil soup.

Off to clean a bit, sew and get my butt in the shower!

Have a wonderful afternoon!

Salad + Quilts

My lunch was so good that I had to share this easy salad combo!

  • Mixed greens – baby spinach, romaine and arugula
  • cherry tomatoes
  • black olives
  • fresh basil leaves
  • red onion
  • fresh mozzarella
  • olive oil
  • s & p

This was the first time that I purposely used arugula and it was amazing! It has a spicy bite that went well with the mellow spinach and sweet tomatoes. I love a great salad!

I have been busy lately sewing up a storm! Here are a few quilts that I have made:

They are listed on my Etsy Site =)

And here is some Jordan Cuteness!

An old friend

Hi hi!
I am so glad you all loved my first Power of Love post! =)
Sorry I haven’t been posting my eats – I think I am getting a bit tired of photographing every single meal. It’s quite time consuming. Don’t worry I will still be featuring food on a daily basis but I am thinking of doing it if it’s new and exciting, and focusing more on health and nutrition posts.
This morning I had a wonderful bowl of cereal.
Mmmm… this is some tasty cereal! If you like the texture of cream of wheat then you will love this! And check out this ingredient list.
I could really taste the sunflower seeds – yum! I fancied up my bowl with dried cranberries, peanut butter, maple syrup and cinnamon.
I could have eaten twice this amount. MMmmmmm… The cinnamon was from Spices Inc and let me just say it was the BEST cinnamon I have ever had! Seriously you guys – I know how much cinnamon is loved in the food blog world and I highly recommend you trying this!
Lunch was a huge veggie salad – perfect!
Where do I start – there was romaine, carrots, bell pepper, brussel sprouts, celery, chickpeas, onion, pepper, Goddess dressing and some rosemary crackers.
I have been consciously trying to eat a vegan diet. If you can remember, this was one of my 2010 goals. I am right around 75% vegan for the day. I do still have my Greek yogurt and an occasional bite of Jordan’s cheese but I am slowly starting to wean it all out.
I have been busy sewing, sewing and more sewing! I am so happy that I found my power cord to my sewing machine! I haven’t sewn in over 6 months – way too long!
I listed some new towels in my shop:
A pack of 4 valentine wash clothes
2-pack pear kitchen towels
I have been quilting up a storm, too. Man, I have missed sewing!

Corn heaven

I am so glad everyone loves my chili recipe! I love it, too! =)

Ahem, this is the main reason why I love chili:

I love me some cornbread – I have to have it with melted butter and honey! I have a serious weakness for cornbread! I swear it’s just like cake!

These wonderful cornbread muffins were from last nights dinner. I was so tempted to grab a third but decided I wanted some peppermint ice cream instead =)

Breakfast today was a blended smoothie for a change.

I blended some almond milk, frozen berries and peaches, spinach, 3 clementines, a banana and some flax meal. It was VERY sweet! BUT good! I am so used to the earthiness of the beets in my juice drinks.

Lunch was chili – what else!?

And a small side salad with carrots, celery, basil and Goddess Dressing.

AND corn bread, of course!

It was a very tasty and filling spread!

I have also been craving some craft time. Yesterday I ironed some towels and set an embroidery pattern on them. I am making my Grandma a set of 7 towels – one for each day of the week.

DSC03873 DSC03874

Cute huh! I love to embroider. I love learning new stitch techniques and improving my stitch quality. I can make one of these in a day – 2 if J lets me =)

Today he is going through some teething and has not been feeling well. =(

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!
