The Turkey Sandwich Post

I hope you all had an AMAZING Thanksgiving! Yesterday was filled with none-other: Eating!

turkey 1

Homemade cranberry sauce, steamed green beans, turkey, homemade stuffing and roasted sweet potatoes with a drizzle of pure maple syrup. We also had regular mashed potatoes which I skipped – I prefer sweet potatoes over mashed! It was a pretty low key day for us! Football watching, eating, sleeping… perfect!

But let’s be honest here… I was looking forward to left over turkey sandwiches BEFORE the turkey was done yesterday! It is my favorite part of Thanksgiving!

Today I made a celebratory sandwich – toasted sprouted bread, mayo, turkey breast with melted cheddar, arugula and homemade cranberry sauce. It was a glorious, wonderful mess!

I always went back through my old blog posts to look at previous turkey sandwiches – it’s funny to see how my pictures have evolved!

turkey 1

A toasted bagel loaded with cream cheese, cranberry sauce, turkey, spinach leaves and melted cheddar. Ooey, gooey GOODNESS! And a carrot with some hummus =) – from this post in 2009

turkey 2

It had avocado, light mayo, sprouts, cranberry sauce and turkey between two slices of toasted, sprouted bread. The best! – from this post in 2009

I can remember these specifically and how AMAZING these tasted!

How do you eat/prepare your turkey sandwiches?

Weekend Roundup – Thanksgiving Style!

I am still not sure how much cooking I am planning on doing this year but I have been drooling over so many amazing recipes on the web this week! Vegan, vegetarian, paleo… there’s a little bit of everything!

Normally we do a traditional turkey or sometimes pork loin with homemade cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing, mashed taters and brussel sprouts. But I really do love seeing all the different variations of dishes! Beautiful and delish!

Thanksgiving 2013

Hi friends! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I truly hope your Thanksgiving was as memorable and relaxed as mine this year!

photo 1ll

I started the morning with a hot French Press… I just love my black coffee!

After a relaxing morning, I took Lilly for a fast paced walk. It was such a beautiful day in Seattle!

photo 2hh

Remember: the small steps you take today will have a big impact tomorrow! Get out and start walking!

We didn’t feel like making a whole kitchen of food for the three of us, so we ended up cooking a roast all day in the crock pot. We cooked it with celery, carrots and onion in broth and water. Hubs woke up early and started it at 6:30! I woke up 7:30 to the smell of spices and broth – it was rather nice!

We literally sat on the couch and watched football all day long. No joke. Besides the walk and taking Jordan to the park, we were all couch bums all day long!

Along with the roast, I made Latkes, mashed potatoes and had a slice of Challah bread. Dinner was perfect! Simple and delicious!

It was so nice to not travel or go anywhere this year for Thanksgiving! No crazy traffic jams, no hurry, no fuss…

Jordan and I hope you had a wonderful day! ❤

ToFurkey Day 1

I have never eaten Tofurkey. But it is definitely on my bucket list! Thumbs up

recipe-box_thumb[3]

I don’t think there is ever enough inspiration when it comes to Holiday dishes and recipes. Whether you are feeding a small family or an entire houseful, food should be cooked with love and enjoyed by all. I receive many emails this time of year asking how to deal with families who do not eat clean or practice in veggie living. I always say the same thing: DON’T STRESS! Just enjoy yourself! And when in doubt, bring a dish or two that you love and be sure to share with others!

With so many mouthwatering recipes, I am planning on doing a series of recipe roundups. Hopefully it will inspire you to cook, create and share!

Pictures speak louder than words

I know everyone was inundated with overloads of turkey, mash potato and pumpkin pie pictures the past few days… so I wanted to share what we did on Thanksgiving Eve!

We woke up and started baking… and prepping! I made OhSheGlows vegan pumpkin pie for dessert! IT WAS AMAZING!

Perfectly baked!

I made a mini pie because not that I don’t trust Angela… but I wanted to make sure it was “family friendly”. Success! It was totally awesome tasting! The crust was nutty and you could really tell there was maple syrup in the filling! YUM!

Then I took a break and started to decorate the house! We do it BEFORE Thanksgiving =) We tend not to overload out home with annoying cute Christmas decorations – we come from two different religion backgrounds. Marc is Jewish and I was brought up believing in Santa and the whole Christmas mayhem. We compromised – we have a Hanukah bush (it’s decorated in blue and white/clear/silver}, display our nutcrackers and just have a great time! The one thing Marc loves are presents – both giving and receiving! He is such a kid this time of year!
