Getting Active with Actio 926

This is a sponsored post – SweatPink Ambassadors partnered with Actio926 and was given a workout outfit and compensation for this post. All opinions, thoughts and content are my own.

Well 2015 is OFFICIALLY under way! Can you believe it?!?!

This year I am taking Fit Approach’s advice and taking a NO EXCUSES stand! No excuse to not eat clean, no excuse to not have time to be active… NO EXCUSES! And I want YOU to do the same!

Will you join me in the #noexcuses challenge? Of course you will because you are a ROCKSTAR!

So let’s chat workout clothes for a second, shall we?! We ALL know that you work out harder and longer when you are in comfy and cute attire. You can hold your yoga pose longer, your miles are faster and the weights are heavier. BOOM!

actio 926

When I open up my drawer to grab a pair of yoga pants or running tights I can either choose between black or black… lol Seriously I have NO colored pants! So I thought “what the heck!”. I NEEEED some new pants! Actio 926 was awesome enough to allow a handful of SweatPink Ambassadors pick out a brand new outfit! YAY!

actio logo My pants are the Spin It 3/4 Legging in Solar Eclipse and my hooded top is the Partie Hoodie in Fog. So so so amazing! The pants are a tad snug – I ordered a small because that’s what I usually wear but they may be a bit too small for my booty! But the top fits snug and nice! I can’t wear anything under it (maybe a thin and tight tank top) but that’s ok! My advice is order your normal size but expect them to be fitting or order a size up and you will probably have a little more wiggle room.

There clothes really are amazing, though! High quality, durable and stylish! Owners Stephanie and Mike are natural born athletes who wanted a different kind of clothing line then what was already out there. Starting from scratch in their home, they started to create handcrafted clothes for active people. Actio 926 was BORN! I encourage you to check out their entire clothing line and see the difference! And if you are in the LA / Hollywood area you can check them out in person, too!

SO let’s get back to talking about NO EXCUSES. I get it… I am a mom, a wife, a work and stay at home gal… I wear many hats! But my health is vital so that I can keep up with life’s demands! That is why it is so important to fuel my body properly, to be active and show it self love! Here are some of my very own tips and mantras that I use when I feel excuses seep in:

Have FUN!

Find what you enjoy doing and HAVE FUN with it! I have found that I love yoga and weight lifting and I am pumped up and excited to practice these activities. Tell me to do an hour on the elliptical and I will run the other way! Being active should not be torture so pick and choose activities you enjoy!

Everyone had to start somewhere!

Sometimes my ego gets in the way and tells me that I am not good enough. Will I look like a newbie? Will I do it wrong? Will I make a fool out of myself? Always remember that everyone started somewhere and somehow. Practice, practice, practice!

Create the time!

Ya… we are ALL busy! But you must make the decision to incorporate a healthy lifestyle and do some readjusting of your time. Mark it on your calendar. Set the date. Set the time. DO IT!

Mantras I use to keep me focused:

~ I have a strong, healthy body ~
~ I create my own happiness ~
~ My body is a temple and I feed it nutritious food ~
~ Nothing can stand in my way ~
~ I can do this ~

My biggest advise to anyone eating to start living a healthier life is you have to start slowly and make it personal. Dig deep and find your WHY!

So remember to visit Actio 926 on their website where you can see how amazing they are!

And head on over to my own facebook page where I am hosting a giveaway to receive your very own outfit from Actio 926! Congratulations to Courtney for winning!!!

Talking with Christy Morgan – The Blissful Chef

Cookbooks.
I do have a small obsession… and a growing collection.
Naturally, when I heard Christy Morgan, AKA The Blissful Chef had a cookbook out I was pretty excited and eager to start making some delicious, vegan and raw food. Christy is an amazing cook and a compassionate person. I have been a huge fan of her blog for a while now. Her recipes are outstanding! And why is that I always end up reading food blogs on an empty stomach…

mewithbook

1. Thank you again for being able to answe a few questions! I have read your book from cover to cover and cannot wait to get cooking! When you first started to create your cookbook, were you overwhelmed with recipe creating? Or did you have recipes that were staples already in your kitchen.

I had been a personal chef and cooking instructor for 4 years before I started working on the book, so I had many recipes already created. Even so the whole process of writing a book can be overwhelming at times! It’s definitely not for the weary. You have to put your heart and soul into it and then when it arrives in the hands of others you hope it helps them in some way.

2. Was creating a cookbook a dream that you always had?

Ever since I went to culinary school at The Natural Epicurean I wanted to have a cookbook. For my final project I wrote a mini-cookbook of kid-approved recipes for parents. I was a nanny at the time and tested the recipes out on the two girls I watched in the summer. I had them fill out surveys on each recipe. It was so much fun! Some of those recipes ended up in Blissful Bites. I have a special place in my heart for kids and for parents, so I include as many kid-friendly recipes in the book as possible. Kids are the future so we need to feed them well. I’d love to write a book someday dedicated to kid-approved recipes.

3. When I transitioned to eating mainly vegan I was amazed by the amount of fresh food I was eating. So many flavors and colors – my meals were never dull! What is your favorite food, or one that you are currently loving that you can’t get enough of?

Isn’t it exciting?! My diet has so much more variety than it ever did before I went vegan and starting cooking. I get asked what my favorite food or dish is all the time and I really don’t have an answer. I love food too much (except olives and okra)! But right now I’m really loving fresh fruit. Since it’s almost 100 degrees here in Austin fresh fruit not only is a pick-me-up it helps cool me off. So watermelon, grapes, berries, peaches, and my favorite is pineapple.

4. The one thing that I absolutely love about your cook book is all of the photos. It is very difficult for me to use a recipe without a corresponding photo to reference to. Was it hard for you to choose which dishes to make and photograph?

I’m the same way. I really love a cookbook that has lots of photos. It’s especially good for novice cooks so they know how the dish is suppose to look and it gives anyone that looks at the book an understanding of how delicious vegan food can be. When people look through Blissful Bites the first thing they notice is all the vibrant colors in the photos. It immediately dispels the myth that vegan food is dull and boring.

Thankfully my recipes are beautiful by design so it wasn’t difficult choosing which ones to photograph. I wanted to have them scattered throughout the book, if there was an ingredient that people might not be familiar with I chose those recipes, and chose all the chef and fan favorites (because I got to eat them after the shoot!) 🙂

5. And lastly… any plans for another cookbook in the future?

I hope to produce many more cookbooks in the future! Also I will be starting online classes soon so everyone across the globe can take part in my popular cooking classes. If you sign-up for my email list you will get exclusive content, tips, recipes, and cooking videos and updates on classes and events.

Sokenbicha – review and giveaway!

A representative of Sokenbicha contacted me asking if it would be possible for The Clean Eating Mama to test some product and possibly do a giveaway. I love new products just as much as you all love giveaways so of course I agreed.

Sokenbicha is a natural tea line with 6 flavors to choose from. They each have their own unique blend of herbal properties, unsweetened and zero calorie. They are very light, crisp and enjoyable – each flavor has their unique blend, see below, and their own healing properties. Whole Foods launched Sokenbicha in October of 2010. Sokenbicha is very popular in Japan as they are the largest tea brand over there.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this product! I find the flavors to be perfectly blended with the right amount of herbal botanicals. If I had to choose one, I think the Replenish is my favorite. It’s very refreshing after a run or if you are simply thirsty.

DSC09127

I highly suggest seeking Sokenbicha in your local Whole Foods.

However, if you cannot find Sokenbicha, you are in luck! I am doing some great giveaways so that you can try this product!

I will be sending out one flavor to 6 winners. You can pick your flavor, too! From left to right:

DSC09123

Revive – Black Tea, Oolong Tea and Rose Hips
Replenish – Aloe, Green Tea and Jasmine Tea
Purify – Green Tea, Chamomile and Aloe
Shape – Barley Tea, Green Tea and Pu’er Tea
Defend – Guava Leaves, Ginseng, Oolong Tea
Skin – Barley Tea, Cinnamon and Ginger

They each have amazing health properties and again, they are all natural with no added sweeteners.

I will also be giving away one GrandPrize – a shopping bag, T-Shirt, pen, post it note and a bottle of tea!

DSC09128

It is easy to enter and you have many chances to win: (leave a SEPERATE comment for each task you complete)

  1. Leave me a comment telling me which flavor you would like to try.
  2. Like me and Sokenbicha on Facebook. (if you already do you can still enter)
  3. Follow me and Sokenbicha on Twitter. (if you already do you can still enter)
  4. Leave a comment telling me what kind of tea YOU like to drink. I am always looking for more tea suggestions – I love tea!

The Giveaway ends March 30th, 2012 at midnight – good luck!

Thank you again Sokenbicha!

(Sokenbicha provided the product free of charge and I was not paid to review the product. Thoughts and opinions are purely my own.)

breakfast, give away, seattle veg fest

Pancake inspiration!

It’s Friday!

As promised, I will update you all on my back situation. I went to our family doctor yesterday afternoon and I told him the long story of my fall, my marathon training and so on. He checked my reflexes, watched me walk, had me do a number of moves (bending over, turning, etc). He said it was nothing serious but really did not have an explanation as to what happened or what was going on. I need to have an x-ray and we will go from there.

He told me to live normally – go to the gym, run of I want. But I am trusting my own bodies judgment and I will probably stay away from running as I am still limping when I walk.

So there you have it… I am starting to feel a little bit better. Either that or I am getting used to the pain!

Jessica aka Dairy Free Betty announced on her facebook page that she was going to have pancakes for breakfast… talk about inspiration! I took her suggestion to heart and whipped up a batch of buckwheat pancakes for J and I.

Of course J wanted to help out in the kitchen! 😉

DSC05029

DSC05030

But he actually had more fun playing with the buttons on the fridge!

DSC05031

I topped my pancakes with PB, strawberries and maple syrup.

I put chocolate chips in J’s pancakes… let’s just say I had a very messy boy to clean up!

Congratulations Heather!

Nourish your Inner Goddess giveaway! – ENDED 4.9.10

yoplait greek logo.jpg

Thanks to MyBlogSpark and Yoplait, I was sent two coupons to try new Yoplait Greek. I have yet to try to yogurt but as soon as I do I will do a review – I know Yoplait yogurt is full milk yogurt and while I strive to live a vegan life I do feel it is important to do reviews for my non-vegan readers.

However in the mean time, I have one spa package to give away to one lucky reader!

DSC04958

The spa package includes a velcro terry towel wrap, slippers, a loofah sponge, hand massager, exfoliating cloth and a skin brush. The towel is great because it actually stays put because of the velcro and doesn’t slip off – genius!

DSC04955

You also get two coupons to try new Yoplait Greek yogurt.  Unfortunately this is open to U.S. residents only and the coupon doesn’t work in the following states: California, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, and Tennessee. But you can still enter to win this spa package and pamper yourself!

There are four ways to enter.. The giveaway has ended! Thank you for those that entered and check here to view the winner!

1. Leave a comment and tell me how you like to treat yourself like a goddess. I love taking time for me – whether that is journaling, reading, running or thinking.

2. Tweet about this giveaway: Nourish your Inner Goddess! Spa package giveaway from The Clean Eating Mama @tashakaye09 http://tinyurl.com/yfhlq25

3. Link to this giveaway from your blog OR your facebook if you don’t have a blog! Leave another comment telling me you posted about it.

Safeway Winner and quick weekend update

The winner from my Safeway 50$ give away was number 5, Christina from This Maven’s Menu!

Congratulations Christina! I will be emailing you to gather your information!

So my weekend went by quickly, too much food, too many beers and not enough time. =) I made an AWESOME pizza for our Superbowl party, too! But, um…. I forgot to snap a picture! =(

I have received a lot of feed back and emails from people stating that they miss my daily eats photos. Don’t worry, I will be updating on a daily basis still!

Hope everyone had a safe and fun weekend!

Fiber One review + 50$ gift card to Safeway!

I was contacted by MyBlogSpark to participate in a review of Fiber One’s Yogurt. As a huge yogurt fan, I accepted. Not only did I receive a coupon for a free 4-pack of Fiber One’s yogurt, I was also given a 50$ coupon to spend freely at any Safeway store – how awesome is that!

They come in 4oz containers of  either peach, vanilla and strawberry. Perfect size for an on the go snack. They are only 50 calories, 0 fat and 5 grams of fiber, too.

Cute, huh!

DSC04134

I sampled the strawberry flavor.

DSC04135

It had a smooth consistency… sadly this was the only thing I liked about this yogurt. It was very sweet for my liking and after one bite I could instantly tell there was artificial sweetener in it – yuck.! I am so used to wonderful Greek yogurt that I cannot stand anything else.

DSC04137

Sorry Fiber One – you did not gain a fan with me nor did you win my Clean Eating seal of approval.

I would much rather get my source of fiber from fruit, vegetables and beans. A medium apple with skin contains 4.5 grams, one entire medium avocado contains 13 grams and one cup of cooked parsnips has 5.5 grams… plus these taste much better!

Safeway has been so generous that they are giving away ONE FREE 50$ Gift Card to their store! Not sure if there is a Safeway around you? Click here to view their locations! I will be drawing a name Monday, the 8th, in the morning.

All you need to do is leave a comment stating how you get your daily fiber. Easy!

The Cookie Gal

Happy Wednesday!
How was everyone’s Hump Day going? Seattle was BEAUTIFUL today! Crazy since Seattle is never sunny in January!
I started with decaf coffee and a nice breakfast.
DSC03933
4 scrambled egg whites, green onion, faux sausage and cilantro, with WW toast and an apple with cinnamon.
DSC03934
DSC03935
And some trailmix at about noon – once I start eating it I can’t stop! haha
I decided that I as in a baking mood today. I tied on my apron and got busy! First up: Vegan Lavender Shortbread cookies!
DSC03958
It was dark and I couldn’t get any decent lighting! BUT I am planning on taking more pictures tomorrow. These are a delicate shortbread type cookie. They have real dried organic lavender that I grew this summer and a hint of citrus zest. They are completely different but so delightful!
Next I made a batch of Chocolate Oaties.
DSC03937
These were an experiment, and I need to do some tweaking. Cocoa powder, coconut, oatmeal and white chocolate chips. I need to up the cocoa and sweetener, omit the white chocolate with semi-sweet or dark chocolate, and add more liquid as they were quite dry. BUT I am eating them now with some decaf coffee, and they are a great cookie with coffee!
DSC03939
I made small batches of each and froze the rest of the batter. I am planning on making the Lavender cookies for the Bake Sale For Haiti.
I was also baking today because I want to start looking into selling my baked goods. I have ALWAYS wanted my own bakery/deli! And now that I am eating healthy, I want to offer baked goods to people that care about what they eat, too. Organic, natural, mostly vegan and 100% made with care.
I guess I have been inspired by Angela and her Glow Bars, thinking “That’s what I have always wanted to do!”. So why not? I have some research to do but keep your eye out for more details on this little adventure. PS – I have SO MANY ideas and dreams; I really have a hard time prioritizing them! =)
Dinner was pesto spinach pasta, Brussels sprouts and Caesar salad.
DSC03962       DSC03961
———————————————————————————————-
Since I trust all of your input, would you buy organic, natural baked goods, not necessarily mine but in general? I have been making breads, cookies and pastries; all organic, natural and healthy. I feel like this isn’t a substitute for a job but to make healthy alternatives to everyday food available to people who care about their health.

In honor of my endless adventures, I am giving someone a chance to win a dozen of my Lavender Cookies!
Here’s what to do! (leave a comment for EACH number you do)
  1. Leave a comment stating what kind of baked goods you would like to see available.

  2. Tweet about this giveaway – @tashakaye09 Win The Clean Eating Mama’s organic lavender shortbread cookies! http://www.thecleaneatingmama.com/2010/01/cookie-gal.html

  3. Add me to your blog roll or comment if I already am.

  4. Blog about this giveaway on your blog. Don’t have a blog? Tell me what your favorite cook book or cooking website is!

The giveaway ends Friday, the 22nd at 9AM has ended!
(ingredients: organic flour, organic raw sugar, organic lavender, organic orange zest, Vegan Butter Spread)
Good luck and good night!
