BE AWESOME TODAY + 3 Day Refresh

~ Will today be the day you decide once and for all to make claiming, “This is who I am. This is what my life is about. And this is what I’s going to do. Nothing will stop me from achieving my destiny. I will not be denied!” ~ Tony Robbins

So let’s be real… YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME!

No really… you are! Even if you don’t think so, even if you are having a crappy day, even if you have eaten more chocolate than veggies or have not gotten out of bed and it’s noon… YOU are still FREAKING AWESOME!

I have been reading Tony Robbins Awaken the Giant Within and I forgot how much this book rocks! I can only read a few pages at a time because there are so many golden nuggets on each page that I love jotting down key words or phrases and really let them sink in.

The quote above is one of my favorites from this book. It’s a constant reminder that whatever you have in life, or whatever you want in life, you are worthy of everything!

Ok – now onto the second part of this post. The 3 Day Refresh!

Drinks that Detox your Body!

I received an amazing email this morning from The Alternative Daily and I had to share! View the web page here, and remember to sign up for their daily newsletter that is always packed with valuable information!

Your gut is the powerhouse for your entire body. When you eat or drink the wrong foods, you may feel bloated, sluggish, constipated, have diarrhea, headaches… that’s because food is digested in your intestines and that food is turned into fuel. When you eat whole, plant based foods, you are providing your body with proper fuel to carry you through your day! When you eat processed foods, junk food or fast food, your body is also converting that into fuel. However, those foods provide no nutritional value and is doing more harm than good!

Feel heavy and bloated after eating processed foods? Feel sick after eating greasy food? This is your body saying STOP IT! YOUR POISENING ME!

It’s important to properly detox your intestines. You will feel clear, the bloat will go away and your energy levels will be amazing! I drink lemon water every morning and it’s such a positive way to start my day! I feel so refreshed and cleansed!

5 Super-Easy Drinks that Detoxify Your Body

  1. Warm Lemon Water Cleanse: A glass of warm water with a slice of fresh lemon is a great way to cleanse your body each morning. Your body has been hard at work all night long breaking down food and digesting nutrients. Lemon juice helps flush away any unwanted materials and toxins that are left over from the digestive process. Because lemon juice is similar in atomic composition to digestive juices and saliva, it does a great job breaking down material and encouraging the liver to produce bile.

  2. Sea Salt Water Cleanse: To keep your digestive system functioning at top speed throughout the day, try sipping on a glass of water with a little sea salt. The salt water helps rid the colon and small intestine of waste so that your body can readily absorb nutrients. Add 2 tablespoons of unrefined sea salt or Himalayan salt to 2 quarts of warm water. Pour the mixture into a jar with a lid and shake well. You can add a squeeze of lemon to neutralize the taste. Stay clear of spicy and heavily processed foods while you drink the salt water.

  3. Golden Detox Drink: This drink contains turmeric, which not only boosts metabolism but also possesses a strong detoxifying power and helps the liver break down unwanted and dangerous chemicals. Ginger, lemon juice and cayenne pepper are added for additional cleansing effect. Add ½ teaspoon turmeric, ½ small teaspoon powdered ginger to 2 cups of hot water. Let it sit for a little bit while you put 4 drops of raw stevia concentrate, a pinch of cayenne pepper and the juice from ½ a small organic lemon in another cup. Mix the two cups and sip the warm drink.

  4. Liver Lover Detox Drink: This juice drink encourages the movement of bile and fat to and from the liver. Since the liver is the most vital organ for both metabolism and detoxification, this is a great drink for those looking to drop a few pounds and clean house. Combine 2 medium beets, a 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, 1 organic lemon peeled, a handful of cilantro, 1 Swiss chard leaf and ½ red apple in your juicer. This juice is refreshingly sweet.

  5. Gentle Green Cleanse Drink: Vegetables are loaded with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. For a natural body cleanse combine the following vegetables for a soothing and nutritionally rich detox drink.

2 organic celery stalks
3 organic kale leaves
3 organic carrots
2 organic beets
1 turnip
½ white onion
½ bunch of parsley
½ small head of cabbage
½ medium bunch of fresh organic spinach
2 garlic cloves

Mix all ingredients with purified water in a blender and enjoy.

Leave me alone, Sugar!

So, a couple of items:

One – I have been having a HUGE sweet tooth lately. It’s killing me! All I want to do is eat anything sweet, no matter what! AAHHHH! I don’t know what is going on – I don’t know if it’s because it’s almost Christmas and all I see and hear about are delicious treats but believe me, I am NOT giving in that easy. Well, I did have chocolate frozen yogurt, a piece of peppermint bark and three LARGE home made chocolate chip cookies yesterday…. and, um, today I had mint cocoa and some bites of a chocolate brownie. I seriously could have downed the entire thing!

I think I am getting a little used to eating sweets, like my tongue is craving them. Usually when this happens I have to do a restriction for a few weeks until I can get these cravings under control – no gluten, no sugar. It sucks but it works like a charm! AND I feel wonderful afterward! Like a brand new me! =)

Two – Um, I seem to have forgotten… wow. I know I had something else but now I cannot remember for the life of me! Maybe it will come back to me…

Well, J went down FAST tonight! Bath, bottle and night-night! Hopefully he will be in a much better mood tomorrow morning!

Dinner was rather odd, but the combo rocked!

:Sorry for the crappy light: 3 egg whites, some salsa, a veggie patti with Laughing Cow Light cheese, onions, clover sprouts and some more roasted Brussels sprouts.

Like I said: weird combo but worked well! But really, we are totally out of EVERYTHING -  a mandatory grocery trip is to be taken in the morning.

And I though that this was hilarious! J chillin with Lilly!

Day 7

Just a lazy Sunday – couldn’t have been better! It was a little over cast which I loved… a nice break from the heat as we do not have air conditioning in our home and the upstairs seems to stay so warm all night long.
The fam went to Whole Foods, too. I usually do not frequent WH as they are fairly pricey and I can get the same product at FM for a lot less. But they do carry a wide range of different products and more options. I mostly look and pick a few things up that are on sale. Some almond butter, a few produce items, nuts, raisins, jam, etc. I was very pleased to find a sugarless pasta sauce! I have had a box of rice fettuccine noodles in the pantry for quite sometime but had yet to find a sauce that didn’t have sugar. Yes, I know I can make my own but I KNEW there had to be one out there.
I was very excited for dinner at that point!I have also been reading quite a bit about these “green monster” drinks. A blend of fruits and vegetables mixed with a scoop or two of Amazing Meal, or something similar, and you have a breakfast, snack, ANYTIME go meal that is packed full of nutrients!

Breakfast:
We were on the go so I had an apple and a handful of almonds

Lunch:
Another tomato and basil salad like yesterday’s lunch

Snack:
A bottle of Naked juice

Dinner:
Rice pasta noodles, tomato sauce with added fresh basil, fresh parsley, garlic, salt and pepper – paired with a hummus salad. I was so full I couldn’t eat all of my salad!

Day 4

Over all a nice productive day. Although I did start my day to the sound of drills… my last dentist appointment for my fillings. I tried to eat breakfast when I arrived back home but was pretty unsuccessful. I ended up having most of my cereal all over my left side of the my mouth! 🙂
Marc left today for the night so as he was packing the suitcase as I was visiting and playing with Baby J. Over all I feel great still! This detox is much better than the last one, all around! No sign of sickness, no headaches, although I still am drinking a little coffee in the morning so I am sure this is helping. Here’s the thing: I love coffee and I have no plans of giving it up. I can go a day without, even a week but it starts my day wonderfully! I do mix half regular and half decaf so I do feel better about that. I don’t get the coffee jitters any more and it’s easier on my stomach. I also have never been one to add sugar, cream or any foo-foo stuff – just plain, straight up black. Plus, it is chalked full of anti-oxidants!
So after we waved bye to Marc, Baby J and I ran a few errands: post office, fruit stand and then the library. I found so many treasures at the fruit and vegetable stand!

The one item I am extremely pleased about is the bunch of Walla Walla sweet onions! Yes, they are extremely sweet! Eat them raw, eat them like an apple… I dare you! And to make our living area a little prettier I bought two bunches of Gerber daisies.

Baby J had a great time running errands with mom today.

Breakfast:
Tasty Breakfast Cereal with a dollop of almond butter – tasted much better today!

Lunch:
Huge Salad! It’s hard to see all of the different layers!

  • organic romaine hearts and organic baby spinach
  • cold, cooked wild rice
  • raw sunflower seeds
  • avocado
  • black beans
  • olives
  • salsa
  • hummus

I was stuffed afterwords!

Snack:
Fuji apple with almond butter

Dinner:
Remainder of my rice with fresh cilantro and a mug of butternut squash soup

Day 3

I love going shopping while on this detox. Most would view this as a restricted torture diet but I become so conscious about broadening my horizon and finding creative and healthy alternatives. I also love looking at the bulk bins! Compared to pre-packaged items, you save upwards to 50% AND you only buy what you need.
My dad, Baby J and I went to Fred Meyer. I am such a fan of their organic and health food items. Great selection, great prices and fresh products. While I cannot get every single item here, I would say a good 80% of my food comes from their shelves. I shop a local produce stand for my veggies and fruit and do frequent Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. I picked up a new cereal that I have been wanting to try:

The verdict: it was ok. Something that I have to get used to. Although it would be much better with some agave syrup or brown sugar but that is not an option for me. I did have a bowl with cinnamon but ended up just liking it plain. It has the consistency of cream of wheat although not as smooth. The serving suggestion makes a whole pot full – way too much for me, so I will have to work on the serving size.

Breakfast:
Mighty Tasty Cereal

Lunch:
I was in a rush so I grabbed a few handfuls of almonds to get me by

Late lunch/Dinner: (around 3 pm)
Wild rice, avocado, blue corn chips and salsa

Dinner II:
A mug of Broccoli soup with hummus, carrots and olives

I sometimes wish I was surrounded by people that enjoyed a more health conscious lifestyle; or at least knew more about it. I am constantly getting questions like: Are you hungry? Is that even tasty? Tell me again how long you have to do this for? You can’t even have one bite or one sip of this? (insert something that is not allowed in the two week program)
I can take it as it doesn’t stop or discourage me but if they would only see that I am doing this for my health and the way I feel. It’s not as hard as it seems… trust me!

Day 2

Yesterday went great! I was feeling a tad anxious as I had a personal training session and I didn’t want to feel light headed. But I was perfectly fine, had a lot of energy and feel even better this morning. Since you are pretty much limiting your caloric intake with any detox plan it is suggested that you try not to partake in any vigorous activity. Although I am making sure that I eat enough to feel full. The point of hunger is when a person can slip and start eating the way they were.

Breakfast:
Coffee and a piece of gluten free toast

Lunch:
Black bean salad

Pre-workout snack:
A piece of toast with natural peanut butter (peanut is a no-no but I havnt not had a chance to buy almond butter and I wanted to make sure I had enough energy to work out properly)

Dinner:
Barbecued corn on the cob, another black bean salad and Rainer cherries (my fave!)for dessert.

I need to go to the health food store today and our local fruit stand to stock up on food. I hate getting to the point where I am mixing random things together so I can have a meal. It makes me not really want to eat which is bad. I also need to stock up on gallon water jugs. Yesterday I didn’t drink nearly enough water. Shame on me.

Day 1

Today went great. It’s amazing how great I feel only after one day, more mentally rather than physically. It’s also a great feeling that I am not going into this adventure blindly. I have already done a lot of trial and error last year so now I can focus on new recipes to try!

Breakfast
did not eat anything

Lunch
Black bean salad

  • chopped Romain lettuce, organic
  • drained, canned black beans
  • canned olives
  • avocado
  • dry roasted, un-salted sunflower seeds
  • organic salsa as dressing
  • 5 organic blue corn tortilla chipsBold

Snack
handful of almonds

Dinner
Broccoli soup with a brown rice rice cake topped with organic hummus

I also consumed about 50-60 ounces of water, too. I love my Nalgene water bottle! I am also trying to stay away from canned food – I would rather cook everything from scratch but I was in a hurry and had to improvise.
Day 2 here I come!
