A cozy Sunday

Hi friends! Happy Sunday!

I love Sunday! It’s my day to cozy up inside and relax. Usually my Sundays include meal prepping, soup making, cleaning, playing games with Jordan, blogging and catching up on my blog reading, business (writing E-Books, editing photos, talking to clients) and just doing what my heart tells me! I also loving waking up early and pounding out some journal pages and squats! 😉 Oh, and FOOTBALL! I love watching football! I have blogged about our Sunday Football watching before… we have been doing Fantasy Football for about 7 years now, too! It’s so much fun!

Oh, and it’s daylight savings time today! I remember hating daylight savings time when Jordan was a baby because of course it messed his schedule up for a good week or so. Now it’s not so bad.

This morning I was taking care of two sick boys – hubs and bubs! Hubs woke up with a sore throat and pounding head, and Jordan has been dealing with an ear infection this week. Moms = Doctors! ❤

I also prepped a batch of Crockpot chili this morning – the house is smelling soooo good right now!

Chili is one of my favorite things to make and eat! Most of the time I will make a vegan chili but today I am making it with ground turkey. And instead of jalapeño peppers I used a poblano pepper – I think it will taste pretty darn amazing!

After I placed everything in the crock pot, I made myself a yogurt bowl! Man, I love yogurt bowls!

photo 4

I used coconut yogurt, a sprinkle of trail mix and granola and a cut up organic apple. I haven’t had a yogurt bowl in soooo long… I really missed them!

Jordan and I also wrote out his Thank You cards from his Birthday. Teaching children to say Thank You is so important!

I also love seeing him write his words! Each day I am so amazed by Jordan! I still can’t believe how fast he is growing!

Here are a few pictures from Halloween! He was a Ghost this year! I bought white facepaint but he didn’t want it one – he’s funny like that! He hates to be dirty or have anything on him! lol

We went out for only an hour and a half and he ended up scoring a lot of treats! Of course when we got home he had to line them up on the couch… did you do this when you were younger? I know I did!

Here is my take on Halloween and candy: I know candy is not good for kids. But it’s one of those childhood memories that I want him to have! Since he does not eat candy or sweets on a regular basis, he hasn’t really ask me to eat any of his candy. He still has the entire bucket full and he likes to play with it and count it! lol I have been throwing away his candy when he isn’t looking. But if he wants one piece here or there I will allow him to have one. We live in an imperfect world! And as long there is moderation and teaching involved, kids should be able to be kids!

You are my hero!

J and I have a great time last night! We walked around, saying Trick or Treat and enjoying all of the other ghost and goblins!
His costume was a little spur of the moment. I thought he was able to fit into his last years costume but… it was a wee bit small. So the day before Halloween I was scrambling, searching store racks and trying to find ANY costume that would fit him. Alas, Superman.

Look how much he has grown!

It is virtually impossible for me to capture any non-blurry pictures of him any more. He stands still for one second and then OFF HE GOES!

I hope everyone had a great Halloween!

What a spooktacular time!

I love Halloween.
I love the ghosts and goblins, the scary pumpkins, the cool weather, and all of the fantastic sweet treats and goolish food!

While scanning my favorite blogs and websites, I wanted to share a few festive vegan dishes that will be a hit for your Halloween party or family dinner!

My little dinosaur + Eating Well winner!

Good morning everyone!

I hope all of you witches, goblins and ghosts were safe out there last night! We had a nice quiet, yet entertaining night of fun! I can’t believe it’s already November 1st… where has the year gone?!

This was the highlight of the day yesterday: My little dinosaur! RAWR!

He was adorable and loved walking around in his costume – and speaking of walking… he took like 7 steps on his own, X3!! I have been practicing with the the past few days and he has been taking 2-3 steps on his own but yesterday he must have felt really confident in his stepping. He even walked to his Nana, my mom, when she first got to the house… it was a really special moment! I tried to get some video but of course I wasn’t lucky enough to tape it… of course it always happens like that. 😉

We had quite a few trick-or-treaters last night BUT we still have an entire bowl full of candy left. And speaking of candy, I ate my fare share of the sweets last night! WOW – it was sure good though! I guess once a year is OK, right?!

halloween, sick

Tissue please

Hi guys – Jordan and I are feeling under the weather today. 😦

He has a horrible runny nose and my throat and nose hurts, too. Ugh – the start of the cold season has finally nabbed us. But I have got to tell you, Baby J is a trooper! He is a tad clingy but he is still running, err crawling, around the house, jumping and yelling like he is perfectly normal. All I want to do is crawl in my bed with my PJ’s and take a snooze.

But this is making me feel better:

003 004

My first mug of hot cocoa of the season! Very chocolaty 🙂 But is it a crime that I only drink hot chocolate with water? I know it’s not as rich but I guess that’s what I am used to. Plus when I was younger I hated the smell and taste of warm milk – YUCK! I bet almond milk would taste heavenly, though!

Well tomorrow is Halloween! What are your big plans?

Since Baby J is sick, we will probably opt out on the kiddy Halloween parade in our neighborhood. The cold and wind could prolong his cold and I definitely don’t want that! With that being said, we will probably skip out on the trick – or – treating festivities, too. Marc is planning on going – he goes every year! He is such a big kid at heart 🙂 Everyone in the neighbor hood kind of expects him to go out so it is no surprise for them to get a knock at the door, seeing a 5’5” adult dressed as Barney Rubble!

What do you all think of giving non-candy treats away instead of candy? I recently read an article  on this very subject and I LOVE the idea of not giving candy out. In fact, as I can recall, I would have LOVED getting something other than candy – a toy, a pad of paper, a nick-knack… anything would have been great! A box of raisins… nah, I will pass.

With the children’s obesity rate growing year after year with no chance of it going back down, I am really surprised that there has not been more advertising for treats other than candy. However I cannot talk too much as there is a big bowl of sweets on top of the fridge… I plan on doing this next year, though.

Can you remember getting something besides candy? Is the idea of giving out something like a toy a concept that you would be willing to do?

Stay safe out there to all you party goers! I will be at home blowing my nose and taking vitamins. BOO

halloween, product review

Before the day runs out

Look what we found on our door step yesterday:

It was a little goody bag brought by one of our neighbors!

(If you click on the picture you can make it large enough to read)

Cute huh! I think it’s great that our neighborhood does something special. Jordan and I went to the dollar store and bought some cute items for our two bags:

Some Halloween candy that we have, a sheet of Halloween stickers, a big pumpkin sucker and a scary fake rat! Marc is going to taking this out tonight after he gets back from picking up the cake for Jordan’s party tomorrow.
I just love Halloween!

I made sure I hung out ghost on out front door so we wouldn’t get “ghosted” again!

Product review:

At the store the other day I noticed this yogurt that I have never seen before:

I love greek yogurt and thought I would give this a try. I love the ingredient list – simple. Just how I like it!

The texture was amazing! Very thick and creamy! But one thing I did notice was the lack of berry taste. In fact, I didn’t detect any. 😦 Plus it was very sour. I made a bowl with granola and CB’s PB and shared some with Jordan.

I was disappointed because I really wanted to like it, but couldn’t. I guess I will be sticking with Chobani or Oiknos.

Question: When have you had high expectations and were unfortunately let down?

Marc has been in and out all day today so I wasn’t able to prep the food. Do you know how hard it is to cook AND chase a baby around?! 😉 So we are on night duty tonight – there really isn’t much to do; cut up veggies, get the platters out and cleaned up, make dips and just get organized. PLUS I have to decorate with streamers and get out all of the table toppers. I may need some coffee tonight!
