I love making our family dog healthy and homemade treats and dog food. With all of the bacteria scares from imported dog treats and food, I want to make sure our pooch is being fed the healthiest food and snacks available! I care about what my family is eating and our dog is no different.
She loves raw carrots and apples and I give her both on a daily basis. And lately I have been cooking her sweet potato snacks and she LOVES them! They are very inexpensive and super easy to make!
Wash and scrub the outside of a couple sweet potatoes. Slice 1/3 thick strips with either a sharp knife or a mandolin. Place on a greased cookie sheet ( I used coconut oil ) and place into a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees for about 6 hours. Flip them at the halfway mark. Once they are done, turn off your oven and leave them in there to finish up. I left mine in the oven overnight to make sure they were nice and crunchy.
If you find your treats to be on the chewy side, not a problem! Your dog will NOT be picky with these and they are still a healthy and fun treat for your dog! You can even cut them into small bite size treats for smaller dogs.
Have you ever made your dog treats before?
